- Last week the National Farmers’ Federation announced the resignation of CEO Tony Mahar after a decade of service to the agriculture sector. Mr Mahar will be taking up the government appointed position of Australian Energy Infrastructure Commissioner, bringing a critical understanding of the agriculture sector and regional communities and their concerns to the role. - Plastic module wrap from the Australian cotton industry is being recycled to help keep it out of landfill. Last year, nearly 2,000 tonnes of wrap were processed by Melbourne company Polymer Processors, which is working to increase recycling capacity and move towards a circular system. Learn more here.
- The Australian Government has released the exposure draft of the Competition and Consumer (Industry Codes—Food and Grocery) Regulations 2024 for consultation. Have your say here by 18 October. The exposure draft was released on the same day that the ACCC announced proceedings against Woolworths and Coles.
- Proposals for Queensland’s Dairy Plan are now public on eastAUSmilk’s website here alongside upcoming dates and locations, and an online portal, for the final round of consultations for the plan.
- Queensland primary producers are urged to prepare now ahead of the natural disaster season to help ensure the safety of their farms. Primary producers are also encouraged to report any damage or losses via the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Disaster Impact Survey.
- Turf Queensland recently held a field day event attracting 33 farms across two events, featuring presentations, live demos, and networking opportunities. Learn more here.
- The Bruce Highway has taken out the unenviable top spot for Queensland’s most despised road in RACQ’s 2024 Unroadworthy Roads Survey. The result comes after a group of leading Queensland peak representative bodies, including QFF, LGAQ and RACQ, have called upon the state and federal governments to Fix the Bruce.
- The Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority is administering Rural Landholder Recovery Grants of up to $10,000 to help rural landholders with the clean-up and reinstatement of their primary production enterprise that has suffered damage as a result of 2023-2024 disaster events. - A survey of more than 1,000 people commissioned by dairy cooperative Norco has discovered more than half of consumers were guided by the Australian Made logo. There are concerns consumers are under the false assumption that these products are also Australian owned. Read more here.
- Attend an Embracing Agriculture Digital Innovation Workshop to enhance your knowledge and skills and increase your understanding of the benefits of these technologies.
